Our Trip Downtown

One of our favorite family traditions is our trip downtown to ride the Christmas Carousel and see the Gingerbread Houses. We had a great time today, so here are some pictures to enjoy.


Paige is really the only one who enjoys the actual ride on the Carousel; Ryan and Katie stayed on the bench and Tyler looked nervous in all of his pictures.

The Gingerbread Houses were a big hit this year, but not just for us--for all of Seattle! There was a huge waiting line, so Tyler ran wild in the lobby. Here is a moment of fun when I swooped him up. He's looking a little shaggy, but Ryan doesn't want a haircut, so Tyler isn't getting one anytime soon either.

Can you belive it snowed yesterday in Redmond? The kids had a great time playing. The pictures of the girls aren't very clear, but they do show how much it was coming down.

Woodland Park

Here's a post I started a few weeks ago and then got distracted, saved it as a draft and didn't get back to publishing. Some more for Rachel to enjoy once she gets home.


One of the greatest perks of living in the Seattle area is the Woodland Park Zoo. After a rainy morning and dentist appointments for all, the sun came out and we headed to the zoo yesterday afternoon.

Soccer season

I finally broke down and bought a new digital camera - just in time for soccer season. Here are some pictures of the kids from last week's games. The girls were less than thrilled with the outcome of their games, while the boys were just happy to be able to run around for a while.

Maybe next week there will be pictures of me and Jeanne? Who am I kidding...

About Time

It is 7:06 p.m. on Sunday evening.

I t has been almost three months since I last blogged. That should be a record of some sort.

Here are some pictures, in no order with minimal comment. Paige playing soccer, Kaite & Paige on the first day of school, and a rare Jeanne sighting.

Phew, take that off my to-do list.

O.K., now it is 7:14 p.m. Eight minutes only. Why don't I do this more often. Maybe I will. . .

Run for the Border

We started our summer off with a bang, by making a road-trip to Canada to visit some friends. We rode up with the Bricks and met up with the Southas' for lunch, a water park and a few hours at the Burger King playland (hey, it was too cold for a park). It was so wonderful to see our friends again!

A thousand words

My last post was much too wordy for me. So here are some pictures from our visit to Gasworks Park during Aunt Rachel's visit.

These Are a Few. . .*

OK, so I'll respond to Joanne and Valerie's tags, but only because the kids are otherwise occupied (chasing each other with the hose in the backyard) and because it is good to be grateful (which I think enumerating my favorite things will force me to do).

1. Falling asleep in a bed with freshly laundered sheets. Ahh, so nice.

2. Reading a good book.

3. Paul coming home from work. I'm so glad. . . (In my own defense, it is not just because I need a break from the kids, but because everything is more fun and enjoyable with him around.)

4. A clean house. Now granted, this does not happen nearly enough. Hence my tagline is: I can clean my house, I just can't KEEP it clean.

5. PKRT, need I say more?

6. Dessert: brownies, strawberry shortcake, ice cream, root beer freezes, key lime pie, chocolate chip cookies, 7-Up cake; I love it all.

7. A new day. Cliche, I know, but I love knowing that tomorrow is a new day, and it (and I) can be better.

Still The One

Paul is turning 35 tomorrow. When I first met him, he was just 18. He was 2 inches shorter than he is now, and quite a few pounds lighter. The years have been good to him and he is even more fun now than during those carefree days of New Student Orientation, Fall 1990, BYU Campus.

How did I know that I was going to be so lucky-blessed? Did I see that he would grow into the hard-working, fun-loving, caring, committed father and husband that he is? I'm pretty proud of my 18-year old self that I picked him out.

For his birthday tomorrow, we'll be going to see Shrek the Third with the kids, going to Paige and Katie's soccer games, and then grilling up some hot dogs and hamburgers. Some men would want expensive dinners, exciting outings and adventures. Maybe another year, but this year, Paul will be celebrating with the 5 people who love him most.

We're still having fun Paul.

I tried to get Paige to read some of the books I remember fondly from when I was her age. But honestly, Sara, Mary and Anne are a little boring compared to Hermione, Harry, and Ron. Thanks, J.K. for some great kid-heroes.

Ryan has such a cute group of friends from preschool. They love construction, chasing, and being goofy.

Real Gone

We weren't really gone, but now Tyler's hair is.

Yesterday morning I went to a visiting teaching breakfast. I came home to find a zip-lock baggie of blonde hair taped to the front door--Paul's warning of what awaited me inside.

I am a little sad about the haircut, since Tyler now looks like such a little BOY, not just a baby. But, his eyes and cute smile just seem to POP out now that his shaggy locks have been shorn.

We Knew This Day Would Come

We just never realized it would happen when they were 8 and 6. We think we can say that Katie is now taller than Paige, but. . .

Chef Ryan

Ryan decided to do some cooking the other night--he made carrot soup for dessert. The carrots were crisp and delicious.

Mmm. Mmm. Good. (Don't look too closely, he is not wearing pants.)
